The quarterback battle between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders has mostly been the story to follow in the offseason on the side of the Cleveland Browns. That is now settled, with Cleveland deciding to go with Watson over Sanders, at least for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But Cleveland’s QB room has more than just Sanders and Watson. Behind the two are Dillon Gabriel and rookie Taylen Green, who is about to taste real NFL action for the first time. Browns Rookie Excited For His First NFL Appearance Green, who played college football for the Boise State Broncos and the Arkansas Razorbacks, is slated to see action this coming Thursday against the reigning AFC champions New England Patriots at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland. “Oh, I’m excited,” Green said about his looming appearance in the Patriots preseason game (h/t Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal). “I’ve got family coming to town. It’s a night game, lights out. It’s going to be a dream come true. Just being out there and being a Cleveland Brown, who wouldn’t want that?” That meeting with New England will also be televised nationally, so there will be plenty of attention from football fans on that game. Watson is not expected to play against the Patriots as well as the other starters. Sanders might get some reps, but it’s going to be mostly Green and Gabriel taking care of the quarterback chores for that game. Cleveland selected Green in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. In three seasons with Boise State and two with Arkansas, he amassed 9,662 receiving yards and 59 touchdowns on a 60.1 percent completion rate.
