Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock remains on the Beşiktaş transfer shortlist, with the Turkish side prepared to pay €12-13m for the 26-year-old.
Sabah report that Willock remains a target for Beşiktaş, whose ‘technical staff’ have requested his signing specifically this summer.
€23m asking price
According to the outlet, the Super Lig side are prepared to pay a fee in the range of €12-13m for the midfielder this summer. However, Newcastle’s asking price is current €23m. This is ‘hindering progress’ on the potential deal.
Beşiktaş have no intention of paying that price and have, instead, insisted that the price must drop to around €15m for the deal to go through. For now, it’s unclear whether Newcastle United are willing to do that.
It’s unclear where the 26-year-old features in their plans under new manager Mathias Jaissle. He only has a year left on his current deal at St James Park, so a decision has to be made about his future at some point.
Newcastle’s midfield rebuild
Newcastle United’s midfield is undergoing major surgery this summer. Sandro Tonali has already left and Bruno Guimaraes is set to join him.
His move to Arsenal is set to be finalised in the coming days.
Newcastle have already spent big to replace both. Aladji Bamba joined from Monaco and Sean Steur also arrived from Ajax.
Reports are also now linking them with a move for
Marseille’s Pierre Emile Hojbjerg.
That could leave competition for places high, with Joelinton and Lewis Miley also already in the mix and wanting game time.
A move to Beşiktaş has been building for at least a month. Sport Witness covered a report last month explaining that Joe Willock’s agent was in Istanbul for transfer talks.
Indeed, he held those talks then completed them, with it claimed that Willock was ‘warmly inclined’ to the idea.
Now it seems negotiations are on between the two sides to find a compromise over Newcastle’s asking price.
