Former Pakistan left-arm spinner Imad Wasim has said that Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah were unable to establish themselves as long-term power-hitters in the national side like Iftikhar Ahmed because the environment “did not support them”.
During the time they were around the team, Pakistan were trialling out multiple big-hitters in their middle order to play the role of a finisher.
Despite being given plenty of opportunities, neither Asif nor Khushdil could cement their spot in the side.
“Why didn’t Asif Ali become an Iftikhar? Why didn’t Khushdil become an Iftikhar? There is a very simple answer. The environment and template did not support them,” Imad was quoted as saying by Khel Shel.
Pakistan recently played a two-Test series against the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, which concluded as a 1-1 draw.
They will now travel to England to play three Tests from August 19 to September 13.
