AEW’s Will Ospreay is presently one of the biggest names in professional wrestling, known for his hyper-athletic in-ring style. But what you didn’t know is that his rise to the top wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. He said that he was kicked out of a wrestling school during his younger days. During an interview with MuscleAndFitness.com, the Aerial Assassin revealed he ran afoul of the academy’s expectations, leading to his expulsion. Will Ospreay Reveals Why He Was Kicked Out Of Wrestling School As a teenager, Will Ospreay was heavily into backyard wrestling, which undoubtedly served as a foundation for his career. At the time, Ospreay went to Dropkixxx Wrestling Academy. However, the academy showed Ospreay the door as he continued his practice outside the facility. He said, “Because I was doing some backyard wrestling outside the facility while they were training.” In hindsight, Ospreay believes the academy was right to take that step, admitting he’d have done the same thing. He continued, “Honestly, looking back now, I would have kicked me out too.” Ospreay’s reaction to this past event shows maturity and accountability. The former AEW International Champion followed a well-trodden path on his journey to becoming a pro wrestler, cutting his teeth in the backyard before professional training. Despite this setback, Ospreay got the chance to join London School of Lucha Libre. The training at that school expanded his skill set, exposing him to different styles in wrestling. His stint at the London School of Lucha Libre served as a springboard. Here, he learned under notable names like Juventud Guerrera and Cassandro. After spending time in the UK independent scene, AJ Styles spotted the English wrestler. The TNA icon eventually recommended him as a potential fit for Japan. Ospreay then won his first Best of the Super Juniors tournament in 2016. In subsequent years, Ospreay won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship and IWGP World Heavyweight Championship before signing with AEW in 2023. With a resume like that, it was only a matter of time before he captured his first AEW title. He won the International Championship in 2024. But now, destiny awaits as Will Ospreay will face Kenny Omega. This will be for the AEW World Championship at All In in his hometown. That said, there can’t be a better place or time for Ospreay to capture his first AEW World Championship. From getting the boot from a wrestling academy to challenging for AEW’s richest prize, there’s no doubt Ospreay has clawed his way to the top.
