But by 8pm, attention will be on Deepdale and Everton’s first opportunity of the season to make progress in a cup competition. Everton advance Muñoz talks Daniel Muñoz remains firmly in Everton’s sights. Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra reports that the Blues are continuing talks over the Crystal Palace right-back and are currently more advanced than Tottenham, who are also interested. Palace could reportedly consider offers of around £25m for the 30-year-old. There is no agreement and no fresh bid has been reported, but this appears to have moved beyond Everton simply having Muñoz on a list of alternatives. Fresh talks have reportedly taken place with the representatives of Midtjylland forward Franculino, who had previously appeared to be slipping out of Everton’s plans. TEAMtalk reports that around €25m (£21.4m) could be enough to sign the 22-year-old, who has scored 58 times in 115 appearances for the Danish club. His situation is particularly interesting because of the uncertainty around Beto. Everton are anticipating interest in the Portuguese striker but would want a replacement lined up before allowing him to leave. The same report suggests Everton could still add players at striker, right-back, left-back and centre-back before the window closes. Everton’s interest in the Eintracht Frankfurt winger was already known, but the significant development is that the German club are now reportedly willing to consider selling him. The 21-year-old France Under-21 international would give Moyes another option on the left. There has been no Everton bid, and Tottenham are among the other clubs linked, but Frankfurt’s willingness to listen to offers makes the situation worth watching over the final days of the window. Everton are prepared to listen to offers for Jake O’Brien, with Leeds United and Crystal Palace among those showing interest. That prospect has divided supporters. That does not amount to evidence of a disagreement between the pair. But the difference in emphasis is interesting, particularly with Moyes still calling for further additions and entering the final year of his contract. Moyes made clear that he wants to win cup competitions but questioned whether lifting one should be considered more important than remaining in the Premier League. Former Everton striker Yakubu has taken a rather more straightforward view. Ahead of his return, he recalled how Preston and England great Sir Tom Finney would visit his office for a cup of tea on Fridays and talk football with the young manager. “He was legendary and still is,” Moyes said.
