Tottenham transfer news LIVE: Romero battle, Gakpo message, Savinho latest
Tottenham Hotspur have been busy in the transfer window and continue to be linked with further deals involving Savinho, Cody Gakpo, Cristian Romero and others
Welcome to football.london's Tottenham Hotspur transfer news live blog.
Spurs have made several major signings this summer, with Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes helping to revamp the team. However, Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi will be aiming to further reshape his squad before deadline day.
Spurs have been heavily linked with interest in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. Manchester City star Savinho has also been a reported target since last summer as the club look to bolster their wide options.
Meanwhile, Cristian Romero is reportedly set to leave the club, with rivals Arsenal emerging as shock contenders for the defender's signature. With plenty of deals still to be done before September 1, we'll bring you all the latest transfer news and gossip surrounding Spurs throughout the day.
Sky's Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle includes at least 215 live Premier League clashes across the 2026/27 season with more than 1,400 live games across the EFL and beyond, plus F1, golf and darts.
Every subscription now comes with 135 channels alongside free subscriptions to HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu.
Lucas Bergvall has been linked with Barcelona as he seeks a move away from Tottenham Hotspur.
The midfielder looks set to leave Spurs this summer, with the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes pushing him down the pecking order. Barcelona were interested in Bergvall two years ago and Spanish publication Sport reports that the Tottenham star has been "offered" to the club by his representatives.
It is claimed that a deal would cost £60m. However, Barcelona are reportedly unwilling to revive their pursuit of Bergvall.
Tottenham are ready to "step up" their pursuit of Manchester City winger Savinho. The Brazilian has been linked with Spurs throughout the summer.
Teamtalk reports that Tottenham are determined to complete a move for the winger. Meanwhile, City are claimed to have identified Chelsea's Pedro Neto as a potential replacement.
It is reported that City are keen to bring in a new forward before sanctioning Savinho's exit. The forward was previously linked with a move to Spurs last summer.
Former Spurs star Toby Alderweireld believes Tottenham would be getting one of Liverpool's key players if the club can complete a move for Cody Gakpo. The forward has been heavily linked with Spurs as Roberto De Zerbi's side look to improve their wide options and the Liverpool Echo has shared the Belgian defender's verdict on the possible deal.
"I don’t understand why Liverpool would sell Cody Gakpo to Tottenham Hotspur because he is a primary player for any team," Alderweireld said. "He’s big but he’s quick and can play left and right, coming inside to go direct to goal. When I watch him he’s always in the box when the ball is on the other side of the pitch. He’s a very good player.
He added: "If he goes to Spurs, I think it would be a good signing because don’t forget he’s a Premier League winner. He performed very well the year before last season when they won it. He could make Spurs stronger and Liverpool weaker when they’re fighting for a Champions League place."
Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has been linked with a shock move to Arsenal this summer.
The Argentina international’s future at Spurs has appeared uncertain for several months. Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan have previously been touted as possible destinations, with the latter claimed to have a broad £40m agreement in place for the defender.
However, The Athletic reports that Romero has also attracted interest from Arsenal. It is stated that Spurs would be unwilling to sell to their rivals, giving Atleti and Inter an advantage in the race for his signature.
