Hamburg hold transfer interest in Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw.
Bornauw signed a four-year deal at Elland Road upon his £5million switch from Wolfsburg last summer, but has started just five Premier League games amid his low status in the centre-back pecking order.
The 27-year-old has been the subject of frequent speculation from January onwards, as a result.
Bornauw was part of the squad that toured the US this pre-season, and put in two good performances against Sunderland and Liverpool, having missed the first game against Wrexham with a small issue.
His squad inclusion indicates Farke currently sees him as part of his plans for next season. Leeds have four natural centre-back options at present - Joe Rodon, Tarik Muharemovic, Jaka Bijol and Bornauw - with Farke looking set to enter the new campaign keeping a back-three formation.
James Justin has been played as a wide centre-back while midfielder Ethan Ampadu can drop back too, but neither are central defenders by preference nor trade. Academy option Alfie Cresswell was also taken to the US but has yet to make his competitive senior debut.
Allowing Bornauw to go, in whatever capacity, would trigger the need to find a replacement given the subsequent absence of natural back-up options. However, Farke has never stood in the way of a player who has wanted an exit.
Bornauw’s exit stance is not clear but Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa has told media in Germany that Bornauw is on the club's radar. The club are searching for a new centre-back after Tottenham Hotspur loanee Luka Vuskovic joined Brighton & Hove Albion.
Lille talent Terem Moffi is also a player Hamburg are looking at. Asked about him and Bornauw this week, Costa replied, as per BuliNews: "We are familiar with both players. They are on the list of players we are looking at. It's not as if the deals are imminent, however."
