Micky van de Ven is very close to agreeing a new long-term contract with Tottenham, the Press Association understands. Dutch centre-back Van de Ven has made 96 appearances since he joined Spurs three years ago and helped the club end a 17-year trophy drought with Europa League success in 2025. However, Van de Ven and Tottenham experienced a difficult 2025-26 campaign until Roberto De Zerbi arrived in March to transform the fortunes of the team with Premier League status retained on the final day. The club’s close-shave with relegation has sparked action with £237million spent on new signings, including Netherlands centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke while, the long-term future of Pedro Porro has been tied down and Van de Ven will be next. PA understands talks between Van de Ven’s camp of Team Raiola and Tottenham have progressed to the point where an agreement over a new long-term contract with improved terms is close. This new deal for Van de Ven will end speculation over his future after links to Barcelona and Liverpool earlier this summer with De Zerbi cited as a a key reason behind the 25-year-old’s renewal. With fellow centre-back Cristian Romero set to leave this month amid interest from Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid, Van de Ven is one of the candidates to replace the Argentina defender as Spurs captain.
