Wolves enjoyed a comfortable passage into the Carabao Cup third round after a straightforward 2-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday. An early own goal from Sil Swinkels and a debut goal for Saheed Olagunju saw Wolves advance. It took the visitors less than three minutes to open the scoring when Tawanda Chirewa’s shot was parried by Joe Lumley and the ball went in off the unfortunate Swinkels. Olagunju put Wolves further ahead with a header in the first minute of time added on at the end of the half. Wednesday rarely troubled Jose Sa in the opposition goal. Their best effort was a first-half free-kick from Harry Gray which was comfortably saved by the keeper. Louie Barry also fashioned an opportunity late on, creating space for himself before firing in a shot which was only just off-target. Gray, who is on loan from Leeds, suffered a head injury in the closing stages and was taken off as a precaution. Wolves were seemingly content to see out the game and never looked like adding a third goal, with head coach Cesar Peixoto using the opportunity run the rule over members of his squad by giving them run-outs.
