The Sky Blues have bolstered their forward line with the signing of Brazilian winger Allan Elias from Palmeiras after a £34m deal was agreed on Monday. Allan’s agreement cleared the way for Savinho to join Tottenham, with Omar Marmoush set to soon follow the Brazilian from the Etihad Stadium. The winger struggled for form and could only manage seven goals and five assists in 36 Premier League appearances. However, his dwindling stocks saw a significant rise at this summer’s World Cup, where the Liverpool star netted three times in four appearances. The Netherlands international’s performances at the World Cup have seemingly caught the attention of Manchester City, who are scouring the market for attacking reinforcements. Marmoush’s potential move to Tottenham would leave Enzo Maresca with no real back-up for Erling Haaland. While Gakpo has predominantly operated on the left for Liverpool, he has the versatility to play centrally as a No.9 and could be viewed as Marmoush’s replacement at the Etihad Stadium. Given the hugely competitive rivalry Man City and Liverpool have shared since the Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp days, the key decision-makers at Anfield cannot afford to let Gakpo leave for cheap. Both clubs are now in a transitional phase under new managers, so either the Liverpool bosses must not strengthen their direct rivals or demand a premium for their player.
