Tevita Pangai Jr sees ban increased as Hull KR fail at disciplinary appeal - Serious About Rugby League

Hull KR have learned the fate of their disciplinary appeal against the charges that saw overseas forward Tevita Pangai Jr banned for four matches, with the RFL now confirming that the Robins were unsuccessful. Not only have the Robins been unable to overturn the charge, they have also been punished with an extra five penalty points added to Pangai Jr’s record, thus an extra game ban has been added to his record. Pangai Jr was hit with three separate charges after Rovers’ loss to Warrington Wolves a week ago today, with that Tuesday night match then seeing the disciplinary verdict held on Thursday. The Match Review Panel would charge Pangai Jr with two Grade A charges of ‘late contact on the passer’ and one Grade A charge for the same offence. Those contacts came on Ewan Irwin, George Williams, and Jordy Crowther, with the shot on Crowther copping the Grade B charge that landed him his two-match ban. Because of his previous penalty points, much of which carried over after his Grade F eye gouge charge, it meant he had enough penalty points that Grade A charges each copped one-match bans to culminate in four total, thus ruling the Australian out for round 25, 26, 27, and the first round of the play-offs, should Hull KR make it. It’s now been confirmed that Hull KR appealed one of the Grade A charges but because they were unsuccessful, the five penalty point punishment for a failed appeal is applied and that’s seen the one-match ban for that offence increase to a two-match ban. As such, Pangai Jr now has five matches on his record meaning that he will only play for Hull KR again this season if they make it to the Grand Final. The club have also lost their bond.
