The Kansas City Chiefs have one final preseason game remaining, on Friday against the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Patrick Mahomes hasn't played in the preseason, and his status still hasn't been made official for Week 1 as he recovers from the torn ACL he suffered toward the end of last season.
Recently, Mahomes spoke on his approach to training camp as practices increase in intensity for the upcoming season.
“The more we practice, the better I feel,” said Mahomes, per Nate Taylor of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.
Mahomes also spoke about the fact that he hasn't missed a single day of work since training camp began, despite dealing with the injury recovery process.
“It's been awesome for me to be able to do that. I haven't had to miss anything, other than the preseason games. I've done every single [practice] rep,” he said.
The Chiefs are surely hoping that Mahomes looks like the prime version of himself sooner rather than later, although it wouldn't be a surprise if there was some rust to shake off following the injury rehab process.
Mahomes had a solid year for the Chiefs last season, but the team largely fell apart around him, with the team's lack of a running game, combined with a big step back from its defense, ultimately spelling Kansas City's downfall and causing them to miss the playoffs for the first time since Mahomes arrived in town.
This offseason, the Chiefs made some big moves on both sides of the ball, including signing reigning Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III from the Seahawks, as well as trading up to draft cornerback Mansoor Delane in the first round.
Kansas City will get its regular season underway on Sept. 14.
