The Detroit Lions have one of the NFL’s best running backs in three-time Pro Bowler Jahmyr Gibbs. There’s a reason the Lions just made the former first-round pick the NFL’s highest-paid running back, as he’s a supreme asset as both a rusher and a receiver. But he’s just one man, and the Lions are trying to build a complete backfield, with plenty of depth to go around. Now, they’ve brought in another notable running back for a visit. Kareem Hunt Lands Workout With Detroit Lions According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Lions brought one-time Pro Bowl running back Kareem Hunt for a workout on Tuesday. The 31-year-old hasn’t received much interest in free agency after spending last season in Kansas City, where he started four of his 17 appearances. Yet, Hunt wasn’t very productive. He averaged just 3.7 yards per carry while taking 163 rush attempts for 611 yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He also tacked on 18 receptions for 143 yards and a receiving touchdown. Hunt left the facility without a contract. It’s possible the Lions were just trying to get a feel for the kind of shape that the 10th-year veteran is in. Or maybe they’re trying to evaluate whether he looks more explosive and capable than some of the other depth options on the roster. Either way, it’s interesting that the Lions would turn to a long-time veteran rather than many other younger backs who may offer more long-term upside.
