Newcastle United’s summer transfer window has been filled with misses. And it looks like that has happened once again. Although, this time around, the fans might not be bothered about it. It is no secret that the Magpies are looking to strengthen their forward ranks. In fact, it has been suggested that they have already put in a bid for Matias Fernandez-Pardo of Lille, and are preparing another. On the other hand, another striker Newcastle United have been linked with all summer is Liam Delap of Chelsea. But he will join a different Premier League club, with a deal now agreed with Chelsea. Fabrizio Romano confirms Liam Delap move According to Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest have reached a verbal agreement to sign Liam Delap from Chelsea. The deal has been given the journalist’s famous ‘here we go’. Delap said yes to the Nottingham Forest project after speaking to Oliver Glasner. The transfer fee is set to be around £45 million, which might be the most remarkable part of this deal. Delap is a player who was signed by Chelsea for around £30 million last summer. Then, all season, he managed just three goals and merely one in the Premier League. Yet, Chelsea are now set to make a £15 million transfer profit. That is truly something remarkable and for all of the club’s struggles under BlueCo, one can learn from how well they have done when it comes to exits. Why Newcastle United fans won’t mind this In the recent past, there have been quite a few occasions on which Newcastle United have well and truly missed out. It is hard to feel that this is one of them. It is possible that Delap could go on to do well at Nottingham Forest. But based on what we have seen over the past 12 months, it would have been a huge risk to sign him, especially for around £45 million. In fact, if Newcastle United had signed Delap, the move would most likely have been criticised by the club’s supporters. They will surely want someone with a better track record of success. It remains to be seen if they can get a deal for Fernandez-Pardo over the line or not. The 21-year-old has not been the most prolific forward either but seems to have caught the eye of top clubs with his performances. So, signing him would have to be considered a coup.
