The Detroit Lions are going to be relying on Jahmyr Gibbs to lead the backfield with David Montgomery now traded to the Houston Texans. Gibbs will have a chance to lead the NFL in yards from scrimmage, as his value as a receiver and rusher is extremely high. Behind him, the Lions now have Isaiah Pacheco in the backfield. But he might not be the only former Kansas City Chiefs RB to join the Lions this offseason. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kareem Hunt was hosted by the Lions on a free-agent visit on Tuesday, August 25. This is an interesting player for the Lions to bring in, as they don't necessarily need to upgrade their running back depth chart. Gibbs is obviously the lead back and would still get the majority of the work even if Hunt was signed. Behind him, Pacheco is the No. 2 back, with Sione Vaki, Jacob Saylors, Trayveon Williams, Roydell Williams, and Jabari Small rounding out the depth chart. Hunt would be an interesting addition, and he'd likely be a better depth RB than all but Pacheco on the Lions roster if they were to actually sign him. He also caught 18 of 25 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown. While his Pro Bowl season in 2017 is well behind him at this stage of his career, as depth running backs are considered, Hunt might be one of the best ones still available. He won't be expensive and could slide right into the depth chart as the No. 3, or maybe even No. 2, RB on the roster. This is only a free agent visit and not meant to reveal his intention of signing with the Lions. But it's something Lions fans should monitor, as Hunt could be joining the backfield very soon.
