Now that the long-threatened and long-feared Rivalries uniforms have been revealed, all that’s left between the Packers’ and the regular season is a week of practices with the Cardinals and one last exhibition game. Green Bay Packers News: Cardinals arrive for joint practices The Packers have very little left on their to-do list this preseason. For it is Cardinals week. The Arizona Cardinals are in Green Bay, squaring off with the Packers in the last bit of preseason work the Packers’ starters are going to get before they face the Vikings in Week 1. Matt LaFleur has pointed to this week as a critical one for the Packers’ top-end players, and hopefully they get a lot out of it. The presence of Josh Sweat is also worth a mention. Trade speculators have long connected Sweat with the Packers; he’s disgruntled in Arizona, likes former Cardinals head coach and current Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon a lot, and fits a position of theoretical need. He’s now off the Cardinals’ PUP list and will be in action against the Packers this week. Unless, of course, he switches teams this week. But this is really just the last deep breath before the plunge. If the Packers come out of this week unscathed, having gotten their starters some solid work against the starters of another NFL team, the preseason will have been a success. They can put the guys that matter most in mothballs until Week 1 and just wait to see the Vikings. Let’s hope that’s what ends up happening. If the elder LaFleur doesn’t put the younger one in at least one head lock this week, joint practices were a total waste. This is exactly the vibe I think you want from your special teams coordinator. Sounds like the defense was in fine form on Tuesday. Speaking of fine form, Chris McClellan is looking strong in the preseason. This is, quite frankly, too many toes.
