The Super League referee appointments for round 25 of the competition are in and it’s been decided that Marcus Griffiths will take charge of the game of the week between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos. On the face of it, the fixture between Wigan Warriors and Hull KR may look more significant as it is a Grand Final rematch and pits a Rovers side in desperate need of a win up against a Wigan side on the back of 12 consecutive Super League wins. However, Hull KR have made eight changes to their squad with plenty of senior players dropping out as they rotate and rest ahead of next week’s must-win game against Huddersfield Giants. It echos what Wigan did against Hull KR the week before the Challenge Cup Final, in round 12 of Super League, which just so happened to be the last time Wigan tasted defeat. Liam Moore will ref that game with Chris Kendall working as the video referee, whilst the week’s biggest game, the clash between Saints and Leeds, will actually see Marcus Griffiths in charge with the support of Jack Smith. That will be played on Friday night when Castleford host Catalans, officiated by James Vella, and when Huddersfield host Leigh, officiated by Tara Jones. There are three games on Saturday, two of which are played at 5:30. Chris Kendall will ref the clash between Hull FC and Warrington, with James Vella in support. Meanwhile, Liam Rush tales charge at the DIY Kitchens Stadium where Wakefield host York. The final game on Saturday night takes place in France as Toulouse host Bradford. Matty Lynn will have the whilst and he will be supported by Aaron Moore as video referee.
