He will be forced into some difficult decisions during final roster cut-downs this weekend, and some fan-favorite players will likely be leaving Baltimore. So, which will be the Ravens’ toughest cuts this year? Two of Baltimore Beatdown’s writers weigh in: Zach’s take: The toughest cut this year will Bilhal Kone. I am a huge supporter of Kone and think his athleticism and ball ability is a perfect fit for what Jesse Minter wants his corners to do, which is react quick to the ball in zone and get hands on. Kone hasn’t been bad and I still have hope that a solid week and the last preseason game could save his roster spot. But right now, it’s hard to put him on the roster. The top six corners are firmly cemented with Keyon Martin looking like a starting-caliber player once more in the preseason and rookie Chandler Rivers making plays all over the field. Beyond that, guys like Robert Longerbeam, K’Von Wallace, and Marquise Robinson have had arguably better preseasons with more splash plays. It’ll be tough to cut a guy who fits the system so well, but a loaded roster and an especially tight roser crunch could end Kone’s time in Baltimore. Dustin’s take: I think the Ravens’ toughest cut this year will be along the defensive line. Travis Jones, Calais Campbell, and Nnamdi Madubuike are locks to the make roster, but Baltimore will probably only keep two at most between John Jenkins, Broderick Washington, Aeneas Peebles, Rayshaun Benny, and CJ Okoye. I think Jenkins will make the team as the backup nose tackle to Jones, and Peebles’ play this preseason and the juice he has displayed as a pass rusher has made it hard to leave him off the opening day roster. I think Benny, a seventh-round rookie, could be on the wrong side of a numbers game despite having a solid preseason. Hopefully, the Ravens could stash Benny on the practice squad, but with such a crowded defensive line room, Baltimore has to be ready to lose a few promising players. Now, it’s your turn!
