Andoni Iraola will make his non-competitive debut as Liverpool’s new head coach at Anfield when Monaco arrive for the latest pre-season friendly on Sunday.
Liverpool vs. Monaco
Pre-Season (4) | Anfield
August 9, 2026 | 2.30pm (BST)
The Reds returned from their three-stop US tour earlier in the week and have added Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Victor Munoz into the fold.
Two weeks from the start of the season, Liverpool host Monaco with a timely injection of senior players after Iraola relied heavily on youth in the first weeks of pre-season.
The Ligue 1 side have played four friendlies before their trip to Anfield and have some familiar faces including Eric Dier and ex-Red Takumi Minamino (although he’s sidelined through injury), plus coach Filipe Luis.
Here is all you need to know ahead of the latest friendly.
When and where is Liverpool vs. Monaco taking place?
Liverpool will host the match at Anfield on Sunday, August 9. Kickoff is at 2.30pm (BST).
No late night or early morning this time for those in the UK, apologies to those in the US!
General admission tickets for the match are sold out, with only hospitality seats remaining at the time of writing.
This will be Iraola’s first home game in charge of the club and only his fourth visit to Anfield in his managerial career after three previous trips with Bournemouth.
Potential Liverpool XI: Who is and is NOT available
Jeremie Frimpong allayed injury fears after coming off against Leeds as he trained as normal on the team’s return to the AXA Training Centre this week.
He will be expected to feature in defence, with Alisson and Van Dijk also in contention to get their first run-out and blow off the cobwebs after the summer break.
Jeremy Jacquet continues to be managed carefully and is a doubt, but fellow new signing Munoz has declared himself fit for the friendly in a timely boost to the attack.
Several youngsters were not involved in training during the week, pointing to either upcoming loan moves or a return to the U21s.
It suggests Iraola will start preparing his team for the league opener, with a strong XI allowing him to push a handful of players closer to the 90-minute mark.
Potential Liverpool XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Ndukwe, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Munoz, Wirtz, Ngumoha; Isak
