Vice President Mutale Nalumango has called on the clergy to continue praying for unity, peace and love ahead of next Thursday’s general election, saying the values are essential for peaceful polls and national development.
Mrs Nalumango urged church leaders to pray for the country’s leadership and the nation as a whole to ensure Zambia holds peaceful elections.
Speaking when she met members of the clergy in Mkushi, the Vice President said love, peace and unity were critical to promoting national development, adding that Zambia needs God’s intervention to achieve its development aspirations.
She further urged Zambians to reject the spirit of division, confusion and disunity.
Mkushi Ministers Fellowship Chairperson, Reverend Adams Chilowana, said the church remains committed to praying for peace and unity as the country heads to the general election.
Reverend Chilowana disclosed that church mother bodies in the district will next week hold special prayers for peaceful elections.
Meanwhile, traditional leaders in Mkushi have commended the government for the prompt payment of farmers supplying maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).
Speaking on behalf of seven chiefs who met the Vice President, Senior Chief Shaibila said farmers are receiving their payments on time and appealed to the government to maintain the status quo.
