Leeds United are back in action tonight, but this time in the Carabao Cup. Coincidentally, we take on Nottingham Forest at The City Ground yet again, after just playing them last Saturday. Over the weekend, we managed to kick off our Premier League campaign with a win there. So to be able to replicate this success once again just a few days later in the Carabao Cup would be nice as well. As Fulham hosted Chelsea on the first Monday Night Football of the season, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville were asked to make their predictions for the season ahead. After our bright start over the weekend, it seems as though the pair are in agreement when it comes to Leeds and where abouts they will roughly finish. Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher tip Leeds United for a comfortable mid-table finish After finishing 14th last season, and bringing in quality players such as Harry Wilson, James Trafford and Tarik Muharemovic on top of that, it’s fair to say that most expect Leeds to stay up once again this season. Carragher and Neville share this view. Neither of the former England internationals mentioned Leeds as one of the three teams that could go down in their season predictions on Sky Sports. In Carragher’s predictions, he stated that Ipswich, Hull and Sunderland would be the three to go down. Neville, on the other hand, tipped Coventry, Hull and Ipswich to all go down. Another category in Carragher and Neville’s predictions was “Relegation Risk”. Both were in agreement when it came to not having Leeds in this category either. Carragher had tipped Crystal Palace and Fulham to struggle this season, with Neville just placing Fulham in that category. However, neither of the pundits mentioned Leeds in their predictions when it came to finishing in the top six or being a “European Contender”. For this category, Carragher had Brentford, whilst Neville had Spurs. So it would seem that, according to those two, United will once again be set for a relatively comfortable mid-table finish. A mid-table finish would be an incredible achievement from Leeds If Daniel Farke could replicate last season’s success once again, as Neville and Carragher predict us to, it would be a phenomenal season. In his press conferences, it seems as though Farke’s mentality for the season is to get to 40 points first of all, then we push on from there. Which is fair enough. The sooner we hit this tally, the sooner we can begin to look up the league table and see how far we can really push. Perhaps hitting 40 points relatively early could allow us to focus on one of the cup competitions too if we are still in them. Either way, the main goal is to hit that 40-point mark, which we look capable of doing. Everything after that is a welcome bonus.
