Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley met with the South Florida media ahead of Tuesday’s practice and discussed various topics, including injuries to multiple players on the team’s roster. One player who is on the wrong side of the health spectrum is second-year defensive tackle Kenneth Grant. According to Hafley, Grant’s availability is in doubt for the team’s regular season opener on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders on September 13th.

Miami’s former first rounder continues to miss practice due to injury.
“He’s week-to-week, so, I think, of course there’s going to be concern [about his Week One availability]. If I felt like he was going to, for sure, be back next week, I would tell you that. Am I hopeful he will be? Yeah. But, there’s always going to be concern until I see a guy out there… Until he has his helmet and shoulder pads and he’s practicing with us, I’m going to have concern, for sure.”
Hafley’s words present a “mixed-signals” type of scenario for Kenneth Grant’s availability moving forward. Could Miami’s coach be using the media to send a message to Grant about the way he’s gone about his rehab process?
Possibly.
However, the longer Grant’s injury forces him to miss time, the more opportunities guys like Jordan Phillips, Zeek Biggers and others will have to pass the former first rounder on the team’s depth chart.
