Government has eulogised the late former Cabinet Minister, Joseph Katema, as someone who made a significant contribution to the development trajectory of the country, through implementation of sound policies that attracted donor funding. Speaking during the burial ceremony in Lusaka, Deputy Secretary to Cabinet, Oliver Kalabo, who was speaking on behalf of the government, has since called on the public service to emulate his selfless service to the country. Dr Kalabo said that the late former cabinet minister facilitated mobilisation of donor support to complement government efforts in implementing policies and programmes targeted at improving the livelihood of the citizens. “The nation may wish to know that the late Honourable Dr Joseph Katema, was admired for embracing servant leadership, when he served as a cabinet minister,” said Dr Kalabo. Widow to the late cabinet minister, Antonette Katema, whose speech was read by her close friend, Suzyo Simbyakula, remembered her late husband as a humble man with a heart without limits when it came to helping others. Mrs Katema said that the departure of her late husband has left a vacuum that cannot be expressed in words. Cathedral of the Child Jesus Administrator, Benedict Chanda, said that the church has embraced the bereaved family with prayer, and asks God to strengthen them with his grace. Fr Chanda also called for the need to honor the memories of Dr Katema with tribute and commitment to living a life of honesty, justice, reconciliation and service.
