Brighton XI vs Roma predicted: Luka Vuskovic and Zadok Yohanna decision made as £100m signings make Amex debuts
Brighton vs Roma in pre-season action from the Amex Stadium this Saturday at 3pm
Brighton step-up their pre-season preparations against Serie A outfit Roma.
The Seagulls returned this week from their behind closed doors Austrian training camp, which concluded with a 4-3 friendly victory against French club Strasbourg.
The clash against Roma will be the first chance for many fans to glimpse a host of new arrivals after a summer outlay of around £100m.
Brighton spend £100m
The likes of Luka Vuskovic, Pascal Struijk, Michael Svoboda and Costinha have all joined, along with Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna.
The Albion faithful will also be able to assess Brighton's striking options after the painful exit of Danny Welbeck to Chelsea.
Georginio and Greek teenager Charalampos Kostoulas will no doubt be eager to impress as they stake their claim for a regular starting role this term.
The form and fitness of Manchester United transfer target Carlos Baleba will also be of interest after his patchy form last season.
Brighton will make numerous changes through the 90 minutes against Roma, but here's how Fabian Hurzeler's men could line-up on Saturday.
Brighton likely line-up
Bart Verbruggen - GK: The Dutchman admits he’s looking forward the new season after disappointment at the World Cup with the Netherlands. Remains Brighton’s No 1, wit Jason Steele providing the backup.
Mats Wieffer - RB: The midfield/right back will likely be the first choice in this role despite the arrival of Portuguese right back Costinha from Olympiacos.
Lewis Dunk - CB: The skipper’s experience will be vital this season as they prepare for Conference League and Premier League campaigns. Faces fresh competition from Vuskovic, Struijk and Svoboda.
Pascal Struijk - CB: The centre back spots will be interesting this term. Struijk, an £18m arrival from Leeds, looks the most like for like replacement for Van Hecke and could be first choice for the early stages of the season, while Vuskovic settles in.
Ferdi Kadioglu - LB: Ferdi Kadioglu was excellent last season and will likely be the first choice once again this term, with Maxim De Cuyper challenging.
Yasin Ayari - CM: The Sweden international may just get the nod ahead of Carlos Baleba to start in the central midfield role. This is a tough call though and much will depend on Baleba’s form and mindset.
Pascal Gross - CM: The experienced German will likely be the leader of the midfield once again. Very impressive on his return from Dortmund in the second half of last season.
Yankuba Minteh - RW: The flying winger has looked sharp in pre-season and on his day remains one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League. Will look to improve his goal return this season. New signing Yohanna, Amario Cozier-Duberry and Harry Howell are all pushing.
Jack Hinshelwood - No 10: Finished last season in the No 10 role and no reason to suggest he won’t be a regular in that position this season. Can develop into a real leader this season.
Diego Gomez - LW: Brighton are a little short in the position as Kaoru Mitoma returns from injury. Gomez is though experienced in this role with Ibrahim Osman also pushing. Tommy Watson was loaned to Leicester.
Charalampos Kostoulas - CF: Welbeck’s exit is a major blow for Brighton but it does provide a chance for Kostoulas to step-up. Could this be the Greek teenager’s breakthrough season? He and Goerginio will be battling for starts... but don’t rule out a new signing in the coming days or weeks.
