Mykhailo Mudryk has emerged as a serious transfer target for Leeds United in recent days. The Whites have been linked with a loan deal for the Ukrainian winger, who is returning following a lengthy doping ban which spanned nearly two years. There have been plenty of conflicting reports in recent days regarding Mudryk and whether, in fact, he will end up at Leeds. Now, Beren Cross has reported what those inside Elland Road are saying. But then Adam Pope stated that Mudryk himself was very keen on a move to Elland Road, slightly reviving our hopes of signing the 25-year-old. Beren Cross’ article in The Athletic informs us about what those inside Elland Road are saying about Mudryk. Cross’ report states that sources at Elland Road believe Mudryk is very keen on a move to West Yorkshire. However, their confidence in Chelsea being willing to negotiate a loan deal for the winger is waning. Chelsea would rather loan Mudryk to their sister club, Strasbourg in France. However, this move does not appeal to Mudryk, who would prefer to stay in the Premier League. The player’s camp seems to think that our style of play would suit Mudryk. But Cross’ report also states the Whites will not be held to ransom. Leeds are content to walk away from the deal if they cannot come to an agreement. Time and again, Daniel Farke has said that he does not guarantee starts for loanees and they must be earned. This was reiterated in Cross’ report, and I have the feeling this could come back to bite us as we pursue Mudryk. I think at this stage, our best hope of landing Mudryk is the player really putting his foot down and demanding that he joins Leeds when leaving Chelsea on loan. Perhaps this could make our rivals from London lower any outlandish demands they may have. Signing Mudryk now may be a long shot for Leeds. But the pursuit does not appear to be dead entirely. Hopefully there’s a resolution soon one way or another, because if we don’t sign Mudryk, we need to turn our attention elsewhere quickly.
