West Ham United are ready to move for Nelson Deossa if the midfielder gives the green light to leave Real Betis. The Colombian has been on the Hammers' radar throughout August, with West Ham sending scouts to watch him during Betis' pre-season preparations. Now the opportunity to actually sign him appears to be there. According to Diario de Sevilla, West Ham are one of several clubs willing to enter negotiations for Deossa, alongside Southampton, Olympiacos, Vasco da Gama and Club América. Ipswich Town have also made enquiries. The report claims all of those interested clubs are effectively waiting for Deossa to say yes before moving forward, with the 26-year-old currently reluctant to leave Seville. Diario de Sevilla report that Deossa is the player earmarked to leave in order to reduce the wage bill and make room for new arrivals. But the midfielder isn't currently playing along. The Spanish outlet says his position for now is clear: he doesn't want to go. Deossa has continued training normally under former Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini and was included in the squad for Tuesday's trip to Valencia. That leaves Betis in a difficult position. There are clubs ready to negotiate and the Spanish side are prepared to facilitate an exit. But until Deossa decides he wants the move, there isn't much West Ham or anybody else can do. He scored three times during pre-season, including an impressive long-range effort in a 3-1 victory over Arsenal. Pellegrini still views Deossa primarily as a midfielder, though. He played 1,491 minutes across 33 appearances during his first season with Betis, including only 735 minutes across 20 La Liga outings. That lack of regular football is ultimately why a departure has become likely just one year after he arrived. Betis paid around £11m for Deossa last summer Deossa only joined Betis from Monterrey in August 2025. The Spanish club officially confirmed that he signed a contract running until 2030, while reports in Spain valued the transfer at around €13m (£11m). He had earned the move after impressing in Mexico and at the Club World Cup. Deossa is a left-footed central midfielder with a powerful physical profile and a willingness to drive forward, while his shooting from distance has also been highlighted as one of his major strengths. With further changes still possible in Nuno Espirito Santo's midfield before the transfer deadline, he represents an interesting option. Edson Alvarez continues to attract interest from elsewhere and Soungoutou Magassa's future has also been uncertain. West Ham therefore need to have replacements lined up in case another midfielder leaves. Deossa needs convincing over England move There has already been some encouragement for the English clubs interested in him. Earlier this month, Sport Witness reported that Deossa was open to moving to England if the sporting and financial proposal appealed to him. His current reluctance therefore, doesn't necessarily mean West Ham have been rejected; it just appears more a case of the player still needing to be convinced that leaving Betis is the right move. If Deossa changes his mind and gives the green light to leave Spain, the Hammers could suddenly find themselves involved in another late transfer race. Have your say!
