Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has provided an update on the fitness of star full-back David Armstrong after the speedster picked up a knock in the win over Bradford.
The Leopards hammered the Bulls 62-10 but Armstrong didn’t feature in the second half after twice coming into heavy contact when taking a catch.
Adrian Lam confirmed post-match that the full-back, who missed the start of the season through injury and has had issues since, would go for a scan to check if there were any bigger issues.
Speaking to the media today [Tuesday], Lam offered his update on the squad fitness overall, with a positive update shared on Armstrong.
“Very good, the majority got through pretty good,” he said.
“Davey Armstrong, I replaced at half time as a precautionary measure and we’ve had a scan since and the good news is that he hasn’t done any further damage.
“It’s just a strain on the ACL that he had reconstruction on last year so we need to make a call as it gets to the back end of the week but its good news that it [ACL tear] hasn’t happened again, which is a massive relief for everyone.”
Lam did concede that Armstrong may miss time as a result of that, noting: “That may be one or two weeks, we’ll have to wait and see, it may but longer but apart from the squads got through with lots of confidence from the game.”
He did confirm that the club expect the full-back to return before the play-offs, which would be a major boost considering that Leigh play Wakefield Trinity in a round 27 game that could decide who has a home play-off game.
With Armstrong set to miss out this week, it would likely spell a start for Gareth O’Brien at full-back with the veteran missing out last week but now in line for a return.
