WINGER Yang Hyun-jun will MISS both Celtic’s derby encounters in the Premier Sports League Cup and Premiership against Derek McInnes’ Ibrox side next month.
The South Korean FA have confirmed the Hoops wide Bhoy has been called into their squad for the Asian Games in Japan.
Yang has been called up as one of his country’s over-age players with their first game scheduled for September 15 against Qatar with the Final due on October 3, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.
The South Korean FA have now announced that although their domestic-based players will join up at the end of this month while the Hoops ace and other overseas players will fly directly to Japan on September 6.
ON THE MOVE…Yang Hyun-jun in action during Celtic’s 5-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, but the winger will miss the derby games next month.
Yang will be available for the Premiership match against St Mirren in Paisley the previous day and will then miss out on the Cup-tie at Ibrox on September 13 and the league encounter at Parkhead the following weekend.
Celtic could have refused to release their player because the start of the tournament is not under a FIFA international window and they did this three years ago with former striker Oh Hyeon-gyu.
However, Martin O’Neill has already accepted Yang will not be available for the all-Glasgow confrontations.
The manager previously stated: “We might have to miss him for a number of weeks, but so be it. We knew that before we extended his contract.”
The champions, of course, will already be without Canada World Cup right-back Alistair Johnston who has been ruled out until October with a recurrence of his hamstring injury.
