The Cincinnati Reds are coming off of a loss in Arizona where the Diamondbacks took two of the three games in the series. Tonight they will begin a 3-game series in San Francisco as they take on the 52-78 Giants at Oracle Park. First pitch is scheduled for 9:45pm ET. He’s made 24 starts and in 20 of those starts he’s allowed two or fewer earned runs. His EAR peaked at 3.31 back on April 10th and has been under 2.70 following every start he’s made since then. Back in the middle of April Burns faced the Giants and threw 6.0 shutout innings in a game that the Reds would lose 3-0. The splits against Burns are big, but it’s more due to the fact that he’s been beyond dominant against right-handed hitters. They are hitting for now average, never walk, and hit for absolutely no power against him. Lefties hit for a low average, walk at a solid clip, and when they do find hits hit for mediocre power. The lefty has made seven starts for the Giants this year and he’s been inconsistent. In his last start he allowed nine hits and walked two batters while giving up seven runs in 4.0 innings to the Guardians. He’s struggled to avoid walks, handing out 20 free passes in his 32.0 innings in MLB this season. Teams have avoided sending too many left-handed hitters out there to face him in the big leagues this season. They have gone 4-24 against him, but have walked more than twice as often as they’ve struck out while facing him in 2026. Right-handed hitters have been all kinds of successful in their limited time facing him, hitting for a high average and a lot of power.
