Sharp soccers one home for his third!
WHAT IS THIS GAME?!?!
The Demons go deep inside 50 through Kozzy Pickett and this time it's Harry Sharp's turn to crumb.
He hits the front of the pack and realises he doesn't have enough time to pick it up, so soccers it home underneath a couple of Freo defenders.
Sharp has three and the margin is back to four points with seven minutes left.

Dudley crumbs to perfection out the back
Isaiah Dudley with the perfect crumber's goal!
The Dockers go forward and Duckley ghosts across the side of the marking contest in the pocket and picks it up and dribbles it home in virtually one motion.
Fremantle back out to a nine-point lead. There is 8:35 left on the clock.

Petty goals after HUGE contested mark!
Harry Petty is having a big say in the outcome of this game!
Max Gawn goes for a set shot from just outside 50m but doesn't get the distance.
However, Petty skies above everyone in a marking contest inside the square and goals for his third of the afternoon.
Melbourne right back in this!

Kozzy Pickett with a crucial goal to trim the margin to nine points with 10:54 left on the clock.

O'Driscoll strikes after Petty gives away 50m penalty
Nathan O'Driscoll drills a set shot from close range to give Fremantle a 15-point lead!
O'Driscoll took an intercept mark around 75m out from goal and then was pushed to the ground belatedly by Harry Petty.
Petty throws his head back in frustration knowing what a huge blunder that is, and he pays a hefty price.

Petty strikes from close range to end drought
Harry Petty gets the much-needed goal for Melbourne!
The Dees force the repeat inside 50 entry as Trent Rivers takes a terrific intercept mark, but his kick inside 50 might be even better.
He gets it deep inside 50 where Harry Petty outmarks Brennan Cox at the top of the square.
This game needed Melbourne to kick that goal. It feels like we've got a game on once again.

Langford misses tough set shot as Dees goal drought continues
Harvey Langford fails to hit the target on a tough set shot from the pocket.
Melbourne has not kicked a goal in almost half an hour of game time.
Still plenty of time remaining though, 14 minutes to be exact.

Johnson kicks the crucial first goal of the final term
This could be a potentially telling blow to Melbourne's hopes!
Murphy Reid has a snap on goal but skews it off the side of the boot, but Matthew Johnson takes the mark on the wing.
Johnson shows tons of composure to go back and snap truly from the set shot and Freo has now kicked the last four goals of the match.
The ladder-leaders are making their move. Over to you, Melbourne.

Sydney vs Port Adelaide team news — Power make late change
Port Adelaide has made one late change ahead of this afternoon's clash at the SCG with Xavier Bamert replaced by Jackson Mead.
The Swans have five new faces from the team that beat St Kilda last Saturday. William Edwards is out with a leg injury, James Rowbottom has a broken hand, while Dane Rampe is being managed and Malcolm Rosas Jr is omitted.
Also, Brodie Grundy is not playing after the birth of his first child during the week. Congratulations to him and his wife Rachael.
The ins are Joel Hamling and Lewis Melican, Sam Wicks and Jesse Dattoli, plus debutant William Green, who was taken at pick 16 in the 2023 AFL draft.
For the Power, Jack Watkins and Lachie Jones are both out with hamstring injuries, while key forward Mitch Georgiades is out with illness. The ins are Jacob Wehr, Tom Anastasopoulos and debutant Alex van Wyk.

3QT: Fremantle 14.4 (88) leads Melbourne 12.8 (80)
Things tightened up as expected in that quarter, but it was still tremendously entertaining footy.
Freo narrowly wins the quarter after kicking 3.2 to Melbourne's 2.3 for the quarter.
Something to watch out for in the final term is set shot goalkicking. The Dockers are 12.1 on set shots for the afternoon while the Dees have kicked 3.5, including a Bayley Fritsch miss from directly in front in the final few minutes of the quarter.
Melbourne leads the inside 50 count 42-36, but Fremantle leads the clearances 35-25, including a 21-13 edge around the ground.
Luke Jackson's influence on this match has gradually increased as the match has worn on. He's got 16 touches, 21 hitouts, seven clearances and seven score involvements, and picked up half of those disposals in the third term alone.
Tom Sparrow is the leading ball-winner on the ground with 22 touches and has added seven score involvements and two goals.
Which player will stand up in the final quarter? I'm sad that there's only one quarter of this match left, that's how good it's been.
Freo has led at three-quarter time in 16 matches this season. They've won 15 of those.

Langford with the monster mark on the wing!
HARVEY LANGFORD!
Melbourne's No.4 skies all over a huge marking contest on the wing to take a screamer. Langford was genuinely the fourth deep in a four-man marking contest, and somehow comes away with the footy.
He's seen the replay I think because he flashes a sly grin while running away from the contest.

Dees dodge a bullet as Switkowski misses snap
Fremantle just turning the screw a little over the last 10 minutes.
Sam Switkowski misses a snap from directly in front that he probably should've kicked after some lovely hands from Murphy Reid in congestion.
Melbourne only trailing by nine points, but it feels like they need to kick the next one.
Just a couple of minutes left in the third term. It's going to be a potentially match-defining stretch.

Amiss kicks his fifth as Reid finally joins party
Jye Amiss has 5.0 for the afternoon as he nails another set shot from close range.
Murphy Reid has been curiously quiet all afternoon, but has a goal assist after twisting away from a tackle on the 50m arc before putting a good kick inside 50 to find a leading Amiss.
Amiss is now tied for second in the Coleman Medal race, just four goals behind Charlie Curnow.

Treacy misses Fremantle's first set shot of the afternoon
After 11 perfect set shots to start the match, Josh Treacy misses the easiest of them all and Kozzy Pickett breathes a huge sigh of relief.
Pickett is tackling like a madman in this quarter and had just nailed Shai Bolton brilliantly in Freo's forward pocket.
However, his tired kick from the free kick was chopped off by Treacy just 30m out from goal.
Pickett has 21 touches and five tackles for the match.

The two big men have also combined for 11 score involvements.

Amiss puts Freo back in front with fourth goal
The All-Star game pace has commenced once again at the MCG!
Lovely work from the Dockers out of the centre bounce as Luke Jackson taps it into the path of Shai Bolton.
Bolton streams away from the contest and puts the ball inside 50, where the leading Jye Amiss takes the mark 30m out directly in front.
Amiss kicks truly as Freo goes 11.0 on set shots for the afternoon. Incredible kicking.
Amiss now has 4.0 for the match, joining Pat Voss.
Sat 8 Aug 2026 at 2:58pm
Bolton flushes a set shot to keep Freo perfect
Shai Bolton wheels around on the set shot from directly in front and curves it back inside the righthand upright!
Freo continues to be perfect on set shot for this afternoon.

Melbourne's manic pressure leads to Sharp goal
PRESSURE, PRESSURE, PRESSURE!
Isaiah Dudley is swallowed up by another huge tackle in the middle of the ground and the Dees go forward.
Caleb Windsor sends a looooong ball inside 50 and it looks like it's going to bounce through, but holds up at the last moment as Harry Sharp arrives on the scene and volleys it home from the goal line.
Melbourne out to a 10-point lead, this its its highest lead of the afternoon.
Sat 8 Aug 2026 at 2:55pm
Reid clattered in another huge tackle
Murphy Reid's having a proper nightmare out there this afternoon, he's not had a second to breathe all game.
He receives the ball inside 50 and is absolutely hammered by Harvey Langford.
