The NFL preseason is coming to a close, and soon roster spots will be set on cutdown day. Some spots won’t be at risk, including those belonging to players who signed big contract extensions or were first-round draft picks this past offseason. The New York Jets have one of each dealing with injuries. Running back Breece Hall is recovering from a groin injury, while tight end Kenyon Sadiq recovers from a medical procedure. However, head coach Aaron Glenn spoke to the media on Monday, Aug. 24, and provided an encouraging outlook. According to Pro Football Talk, both players are on track to play in Week 1 of the regular season. Video from Monday’s practice show Hall moving well on a side field as he goes through the rehab process. Glenn said that the team also expects tight end Kenyon Sadiq to play in the opener. The first-round pick has been sidelined after a procedure to address a hernia.” Pro Football Talk reported. Jets need all systems go The Jets need both Hall and Sadiq healthy as they prepare for the regular season. The two players will be important pieces of an offense led by returning quarterback Geno Smith, who will need plenty of support around him to keep the unit moving. Hall remains one of the Jets’ most important offensive weapons. His ability to run the football effectively and contribute as a receiver gives Smith another reliable option while also taking pressure off the passing game. As a first-round pick, expectations will be high, but his versatility could give the Jets another way to attack defenses. He can also create opportunities for their other playmakers. That includes wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who should remain the focal point of the passing game. Getting Hall and Sadiq back would give Smith more weapons to work with and force defenses to account for multiple areas of the offense. With the regular season approaching, the Jets will hope both players continue progressing without setbacks. Having Hall and Sadiq available for the opener would give New York a much better chance to start the season with its offense operating at full strength.
