San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York filed for divorce from his wife less than four months before he was arrested near his Ohio hometown, court documents show. On May 11, York filed for divorce from his wife, Danielle, in Santa Clara County Superior Court. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Jed York cited “irreconcilable differences” in his filing. (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.) Danielle York responded in court on June 30 and also moved to dissolve the marriage, with the two awaiting a hearing date in court. Advertisement Article continues below this ad WKBN-TV in Youngstown was first to report on York’s arrest, which happened on Sunday morning outside a mobile home park in East Palestine, Ohio, on suspicion of disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools. York, 46, pleaded no contest to the charges and was ordered to pay $1,150 in fines and sentenced to serve one day in jail for each charge, which were served concurrently. Columbiana County Municipal Court records show York was initially taken into custody on a charge of engaging in prostitution, but that charge was later dropped. York’s family originates from Youngstown, Ohio, on his mother’s side, and York is a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown. York grew up around the 49ers and has been the CEO of the team since the end of the 2008 season. He became the principal owner of the team in 2024 when he bought out many of his mother’s shares. York’s filing for divorce was not publicly known until hours after his arrest. Jed and Danielle York have been married for 15 years and have two children, school-age boys. According to the Chronicle, the couple have agreed to legal and physical joint custody of them. Court records show that York filed a request on Monday to expunge the case from his record. York’s cellphone was returned to him, but court records show York agreed to forfeit $160 that was seized from him to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. Advertisement Article continues below this ad NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the league is “aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy.” The 49ers distributed a statement to members of the media: “As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time.” York was expected to be in Atlanta on Wednesday for a one-day NFL owners meeting to approve the sale of the division rival Seattle Seahawks to a group led by the Khosla family, which had bought a small stake in the 49ers last May.
