It will be one of the most difficult decisions in a long time for the New York Giants, but the team is projected to cut former first-round pick wide receiver Odell Beckham in the latest NFL rumors. Beckham, a former 2014 NFL Draft pick, returned to the Giants this offseason after spending a season away from the league. New York already had a logjammed receiving room, signing Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin to contracts. Now, come decision time, it’s no wonder the Giants may consider releasing the former LSU product, but Gary Davenport said one play may have decided his fate in New York:
“Beckham didn’t help his chances by narrowly missing a touchdown catch in that game against the Dolphins, but the reality is that he’s an aging receiver who has one year with 550 receiving yards in the last six years,” Davenport said.
The last time the veteran had a solid Pro Bowl campaign was in his tenure with Cleveland in 2019. Although he won a Super Bowl in 2021 with the Los Angeles Rams, he tore his ACL in that championship matchup and hasn’t been the same since.

End of Career?
While it might’ve been a good temporary Cinderella run, ESPN’s Jordan Ranaan originally came up with the notion. He said the pass-catcher faced an uphill battle either way, especially behind 2026 draft pick Malachi Fields and veteran Darius Slayton. While Jalin Hyatt will be released, too, the Giants also have Malik Nabers returning to the lineup.
“Unless the Giants trade a wide receiver, there probably won’t be room for him on the roster,” Ranaan said.
Since joining the league, the pass-catcher finished with 575 receptions, 7,987 receiving yards, and 59 receiving touchdowns across six teams. Although he’s nearing the end of his career, he could have one last shot this upcoming campaign, but in a different uniform.
