Tottenham hope to add more attacking depth for this season before the transfer window slams shut. Tottenham Hotspur have been working hard to complete the summer transfer window on a high note. New forward signings are not far from being completed by the North Londoners, who are edging closer to completing deals for Manchester City duo Savinho and Omar Marmoush. A humbling 3-0 defeat to Brentford handed Spurs a blunt reality check on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. Roberto De Zerbi’s side were second-best across the park, but it was in attack where they were particularly devoid of energy, impetus and cutting edge. After the potential acquisitions of Savinho and Marmoush, De Zerbi could push the club chiefs to make another attacking addition. Tottenham receive Manchester City competition for Liverpool star Tottenham have been showing interest in signing Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo for the major part of the summer transfer window. The Netherlands international is willing to move to N17 if the two clubs agree on a fee. However, Spurs could now face competition from one of their Premier League rivals. According to a report from Soccer News, Manchester City have entered the race for Cody Gakpo as they attempt to beat Tottenham to his services. The Sky Blues have made their first move to sign the 27-year-old. Tottenham have agreed personal terms with Gakpo, which means he is ready to leave Anfield and move to North London. The Lilywhites have been pushing to agree terms with Liverpool, who value him at over £70m. The Dutch star was signed from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 and has gone on to score 51 goals in 181 appearances for the Reds, including one in the opening weekend draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park. A Premier League-proven commodity, Gakpo would enhance Tottenham’s attacking unit. The 27-year-old can play in multiple attacking positions, link up well, create opportunities and score goals. However, Man City are now showing an interest in the player. Enzo Maresca wants to keep his squad depth intact to compete in multiple positions and, perhaps, is keen on Gakpo. That said, De Zerbi’s club might need to act quickly to land the versatile attacker in the coming days. City’s interest complicates Tottenham’s pursuit of Gakpo. The Liverpool man’s qualities on and off the ball, coupled with top-flight experience, make him a perfect fit under De Zerbi at White Hart Lane.
