CM Punk delivered an emotional night at Thursday’s WWE live event in Fairfax, Virginia, both honoring a fallen legend and addressing unfinished business with Cody Rhodes. Punk teamed up with Rhodes to take on GUNTHER and Ricky Saints in the main event, and during the finish, he paid tribute to WWE Hall of Famer Dory Funk Jr., who passed away just days earlier at the age of 85, by hitting his GTS and then applying Funk’s signature spinning toe hold instead of going for the pin. This followed a similar tribute Punk gave to the late Terry Funk at SummerSlam 2026, showing his deep respect for the Funk wrestling family. Once the match ended, Punk grabbed a microphone and turned his attention to Rhodes, admitting that his SummerSlam 2026 title win in Minnesota felt dirty since Randy Orton’s interference had played a major role in the outcome. Punk then praised Rhodes for carrying WWE as its top face for over four years and said a champion is not truly proven until he beats the reigning titleholder, offering Rhodes an open rematch whenever he wants one. The Fairfax card also saw Charlotte Flair defeat Jacy Jayne, Baron Corbin retain the United States Championship, and The War Raiders capture the AAA World Tag Team Championships.
