Steve Maclin has lost the Boca Raton Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, and the timing could not be more interesting given the swirling AEW rumors around him. The title got stripped right after a heated interview with BRCW boss Matthew Maschler, where things quickly went off the rails. Maclin told Maschler to step into the ring himself instead of talking trash, then declared that he would skip the promotion’s August 16 Summer Smash show. In response, Maschler confirmed that Maclin was off the card and stripped him of the title once the call ended. This drama comes amid ongoing speculation about Maclin’s next destination since leaving TNA Wrestling back in June, with reports pointing to preliminary AEW talks. His wife, Deonna Purrazzo, is currently signed to AEW, which only adds fuel to the rumors. WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has confirmed that his long-awaited brain surgery is now set for Wednesday in Norman, Oklahoma. Doctors will place a shunt inside his brain to drain excess fluid to improve his memory and balance. Ross had already endured a nearly forty-day hospital stay earlier this year after passing out at home. During a recent edition of his “Grilling JR” podcast, the AEW commentator said, “I’m good, man. I got a big week coming up. My surgery is this Wednesday [August 12] in Norman [Oklahoma]. I don’t want to say I’m looking forward to it, but I guess I really am to get to that point and to get it over with. I have never had brain surgery before. So they’re going to put a—what do they call it? A shunt? So I’m getting a shunt put in my brain. They said I’m only going to be in the hospital a day. That surprised me and made me happy, but still I would have guessed longer.”
