Today, 22-year-old Uzuzole Goqwana appeared in the Mdantsane Magistrates’ Court, following his arrest in Kugompo City over the weekend. Tete’s 27-year-old partner sustained gunshot wounds and, according to police, remains in hospital. Eastern Cape National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said that investigations have linked Goqwana to the attack. The state alleges he hired the hit on Tete, and is therefore opposing Uzuzole Goqwana's bail, on account of this being a schedule six matter and that the accused could interfere with evidence. Prosecutors also told the court that they feared for Goqwana's safety, and said he may be safer in police custody. His defence, however, argued that his medical condition should be taken into account when considering bail. The court has ordered that Goqwana be transferred to the medical section of Westbank Prison. His matter has been postponed to Tuesday for a bail application.
