Rangers player ratings vs Jagiellonia Bialystok as fall guy lands 3/10 and debutant assessed
Marks out of ten for Rangers players in Poland
Rangers paid the price for sloppy defending as they let slip an early Europa League lead to lose 2-1 to Jagiellonia Bialystok in Poland.
Derek McInnes’ first European tie as Gers boss got off to a dream start in the first leg of the third qualifier when home defender Guilherme Montoia turned a Tuur Rommens cross into his own net after just four minutes.
However, Kajetan Szmyt levelled in the 13th minute with a preventable goal to rattle the Light Blues then added a second eight minutes later after more defensive slackness from the visitors.
McInnes brought on Cammy Devlin, Nico Raskin and Findlay Curtis for the start of the second half and the visitors dominated the ball but could not find a way to a leveller, with Curtis crashing a shot off the post in added time, and they will have to turn the tie around at Ibrox next week.
We give each player a mark out of ten for their display:
GK: Ivor Pandur (6/10)
Distribution was good. Unable to prevent the hosts' leveller. Saved Prelec's initial attempt but now chance of keeping out Szmyt's follow up.
RB: Ross McCrorie (6/10)
Replacing the injured Ben Godfrey. Unable to react quick enough for the hosts' second goal. Was dragged out of position at times but stuck to his task.
CB: Dujon Sterling (4/10)
Overhit a cross field pass to Yokota, which summed up his first half. Almost played his way into trouble when misjudging a pass back to Fernandez.
CB: Emmanuel Fernandez (3/10)
Continues to endure a shaky start to the season. Lackadaisical attempt to cut out the ball as it slid under his foot for Jagiellonia's equaliser. Slipped in the middle of the area for the hosts' second at a critical stage.
LB: Tuur Rommens (6/10)
Flashed a low delivery across the box which led to Rangers' fortuitous opening goal. Picked up a harsh booking for a fairly innocuous challenge seconds after the restart.
CM: Dan Neil (5/10)
Wearing the captain's armband but failed to grasp his opportunity. Decision-making was poor in the build up to the hosts' second goal. Replaced at the break.
CM: Tochi Chukwuani (5/10)
Sat out of the game at Tannadice, but drafted back in from the start here. Booked for a rash first-half challenge on Wojtuszek. Hooked at the interval.
CM: Mohamed Diomande (6/10)
Clever reverse pass set Rommens free in the build up to Rangers' opener. Contributed a lot of positives, particularly in the first half.
LCF: Thelo Aasgaard (4/10)
A night to forget. May have been the star man on Friday night, but looked miles of the pace here. Lost possession on the edge of the hosts' box, which led to the counter attack that resulted in Jagiellonia's second goal. Nothing came off for him.
CF: Youssef Chermiti (6/10)
Favoured to lead the line over Shankland. Pressed high up the pitch early doors and did well to win back possession before trying his luck from distance. Shot lacked necessary power to trouble the keeper. Had a few half-chances thereafter.
RCF: Daisuke Yokota (5/10)
Thrown straight in at the deep end a little over 24 hours after putting pen to paper, found himself running on adrenaline but was unable to influence proceedings.
Rangers Subs:
Nicolas Raskin (5/10) - Added more composure in midfield
Findlay Curtis (6/10) - Carved out a great chance late on after linking with Raskin but denied by the woodwork
Cammy Devlin (5/10) - Worked hard
Vanja Dragojevic - (4/10) - Replaced Aasgaard for the last 15 mins
Lawrence Shankland - N/A
