As Title Event Partner, Lidl Ireland is showing its support for Katie and offering fans the chance to bag a piece of history with the launch of a limited run of specially designed boxing shorts, which will go on sale from 10am on Friday 28 August via Lidl’s website. Priced at just €25, the exclusive merch features Lidl’s iconic brand colours with the retailer’s campaign slogan ‘In Katie’s Corner’ emblazoned on the belt, allowing fans to show their support for one of Ireland’s greatest athletes as she steps into the ring for the final time in a historic moment for female sport. Donation 100% of proceeds from ‘In Katie’s Corner’ short sales will be donated to Lidl’s official charity partner, Family Carers Ireland. Stepping into Katie’s corner to launch the limited-edition shorts are five young boxers from Liberty Boxing Club in Bray – Madeline Taylor, Amelie Taylor, Molly Higgins, Amy O’Shaughnessy and Dinaa Ghorbani – representing the next generation of girls inspired by the path Katie has helped forge for women in boxing. Among the group are National Champion Molly Higgins and former European kickboxing champion Dinaa Ghorbani, alongside Katie’s nieces, Madeline and Amelie Taylor, bringing the campaign’s celebration of Katie’s impact on the next generation particularly close to home. Joining the young boxers to show their support for Katie are three accomplished Irish sportswomen – Dublin LGFA star and former Ireland rugby international Hannah Tyrrell, former Republic of Ireland footballer Stephanie Zambra and Ireland rugby international Edel McMahon – bringing together women from across Irish sport to proudly stand ‘In Katie’s Corner’ ahead of her historic Croke Park homecoming. Speaking in support of her aunt ahead of her historic Croke Park fight, Madeline Taylor: “We’re all incredibly proud of Katie and everything she has achieved. “Having her as my aunt and being able to look up to her, not just as a boxer but as a person, is really special. “She has shown me and so many other young girls what can be possible when you work hard and believe in yourself. “Being part of the shoot at Liberty with the other girls was really exciting, especially knowing we’re all coming together to support Katie ahead of such a huge moment at Croke Park. “We’re so proud to be ‘In Katie’s Corner’ and we’ll all be cheering her on in September.” Hannah Tyrrell, Dublin LGFA star and former Ireland rugby international, said: “Katie has changed what so many women and girls in Ireland can imagine for themselves in sport. What she has achieved goes far beyond boxing – she has shown an entire generation that women belong on the biggest sporting stages and has helped pave the way for so many of us who have followed. “As a Dublin LGFA player, I’ve seen first-hand the impact that long-term support and investment from partners like Lidl can have on women’s sport, from grassroots level right through to the biggest stages. “It was really special to stand alongside the young boxers at Liberty and see the impact Katie continues to have on the next generation. “The ‘In Katie’s Corner’ shorts are a brilliant way for supporters to get behind her ahead of Croke Park, while also supporting a great cause. “As female athletes, we’re incredibly proud to be ‘In Katie’s Corner’ for such a huge moment in Irish sport, and I know the whole country will be right there with us cheering her on.” Eimear O’Sullivan, Corporate Affairs director at Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland, said: “As a long-time champion of women in sport through our decade-long partnership with the LGFA, Lidl is proud to be “In Katie’s Corner’’ for this historic clash at Croke Park. “These limited-edition shorts are our way of capturing some of that incredible fight-night energy and giving fans another way to show their support as the countdown to Croke Park begins. “What makes this moment particularly special is the legacy behind it. “Katie has inspired a generation of women and girls to see what is possible in sport, so to have some of Ireland’s next generation of female sporting talent helping us launch the shorts feels incredibly fitting. “We can’t wait to see the country get behind the fight and step ‘In Katie’s Corner’.” The merchandise launch is part of a wider campaign by the retailer celebrating one of the biggest moments in Irish sporting history and the extraordinary legacy Katie Taylor continues to build beyond the ring. Taylor vs Pili is delivered by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing in association with Aiken Promotions and Brian Peters, with Title Event Partner Lidl Ireland. As the first major sponsor of female sport in Ireland, Lidl is renowned for its long-term support of women in sport. For more than a decade, Lidl Ireland has worked to break down barriers and elevate female sport through its partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA), investing more than €15 million in their longstanding partnership and grassroots clubs nationwide. For Lidl Ireland, being ‘In Katie’s Corner’ is about more than one night at Croke Park. The campaign celebrates the impact Katie has had on Irish sport and the generations of women and girls who have been inspired to follow in her footsteps, while giving fans across Ireland the opportunity to show their support as she prepares to step into the ring at Croke Park.
