The Tennessee Titans played their second game of the preseason on Sunday night, tying the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 19-19. But it’s safe to say that head coach Robert Saleh was not impressed by what he saw from the team. While quarterback Cam Ward played better in this game than he did in his first preseason game, Saleh acknowledged that the entire offense needs to be better than what he saw on Sunday night. ‘Not trying to sugarcoat it’ The Titans scored 19 points in total against the Seahawks, but 10 of those points came in the fourth quarter when the team’s reserve players were on the field. After struggling in his first two series with the team, Ward played two series with the first-team offense on Sunday night. While the team performed better, it still wasn’t great. Ward led the team to a field goal on their first drive, but failed to convert a fourth-and-1 on their second possession. On his final series, he took a sack and fumbled to set up a punt. All in all, Ward was 8-of-12 for 69 yards through the air before exiting the game, which is certainly better than last week, but the offense as a whole was not where Saleh wanted it to be. “I thought the first drive was good, we went out there and got some points,” Saleh said via Pro Football Talk. “Thought Cam, again, was good with the ball, good decision-making. We just couldn’t connect on a couple of deep throws, but, overall, it’s got to be better. I’m not trying to sugarcoat it. It does got to be better, but at the same time, there’s always going to be things that we can take from.” Improvement From Last Week The good news is that Saleh was able to say some much kinder things about Ward than he did last week. During his preseason debut against the San Francisco 49ers last week, Ward played three series and went just 5-of-12 for 57 yards through the air with a 56.6 passer rating. He also accounted for an egregious intentional grounding penalty and a near-interception – all against a defense made up of bench players. “The good news is going back and digging in on the film, every pass play that (Daboll) called yesterday we’ve run in practice,” Titans head coach Robert Saleh said last week via NFL Media. “You guys have been there and you guys have seen flashes of Cam and the entire offense operating at a very high level. It’s as simple as just time on task. “Every single one of those plays he’s executed flawlessly in practice. He’s got to be able to have the confidence in not only himself but his teammates to execute, get your feet down, play with great technique and deliver the football just like he has. We’re going to continue to harp on the technique, all the fundamentals, continue to rep things at a high level. It’s just reps.” So at least Ward was better, even if the offense still isn’t where it needs to be.
