Xabi Alonso has responded to links between Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez and Manchester City amid ongoing interest from the Etihad Stadium. Xabi Alonso will take charge of his first competitive game as new manager of the west London club in a local derby against fellow former Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa's Fulham on Monday night. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder has seen vice-captain Fernandez being linked with a sensational switch to the Etihad Stadium in recent weeks, with Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca keen to reunite with the Argentina international. Fernandez is understood to be keen on joining forces with Maresca at Manchester City, who have been told they need to pay north of £120 million for the 25-year-old, who reached the FIFA World Cup final with his nation in North America earlier this summer. Enzo is a Chelsea player, says Alonso in transfer message Speaking in a press conference after Chelsea fans booed Enzo Fernandez in their final pre-season friendly last week, Stamford Bridge manager Xabi Alonso was asked whether the midfielder would still be at his disposal when the summer transfer window closes. “Enzo [Fernandez] is a Chelsea player. He's a top, top player,” Xabi Alonso said, as quoted by MailSport. “He's training really well since he started 10 days ago with the team, very integrated. “We are happy with him and he's getting ready for Monday. He’s a player, he’s training well, he’s preparing for Monday and that’s my concern at the moment.” Chelsea are understood to be holding firm on their valuation of Enzo Fernandez, who remains under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2032. Where does City’s pursuit of Fernandez stand at present? Manchester City are yet to make a formal offer for Enzo Fernandez to test Chelsea’s resolve of holding onto the Argentine. The Blues are believed to be targeting two new signings in midfield before the summer transfer deadline to replace Tiijani Reijnders and Rodri, who have joined Al Qadsiah and Barcelona respectively. Manchester City have shortlisted a wide range of targets to pursue in the final weeks of the transfer window, having also made enquiries for Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton, only to be told the 22-year-old is not for sale.
