Some reports also suggested that Galatasaray launched an opening bid worth €18m for the Senegalese international. However, Spurs immediately rejected it and slapped a €25m valuation on the player. Pape Matar Sarr still has four years to run on his contract, but he appears to have no future under Roberto De Zerbi. The Tottenham boss said last week that he is unsure whether the 23-year-old will stay at the club or leave. Pape Matar Sarr wants to stay in England The central midfielder missed the Lilywhites’ first game of the 2026/27 season against Brentford with a minor injury. Having agreed personal terms with Galatasaray, it suggests Sarr wants to play in the Turkish Super Lig this season. However, there are contrasting claims being made now. According to The Times reporter Tom Allnutt on X, Sarr has told Tottenham he wants to leave following the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. He wants to play more regularly, and Galatasaray are an option. However, Premier League clubs are also keeping tabs, and the midfielder would ‘like’ to continue his career in England. Competition for places has increased considerably at White Hart Lane after the big-money arrivals of Tonali and Fernandes. Add them to the presence of Conor Gallagher and James Maddison, coupled with De Zerbi stating that Lucas Bergvall is staying put, Sarr’s minutes are expected to only reduce. He made 26 Premier League appearances last season, but the intense competition for places in midfield this term is only going to impact his trajectory. The fact that the Senegalese international is not someone who can raise the floor of this team, which is maybe why Sarr and the club are open to his permanent exit this summer. Interestingly, the former FC Metz talent’s desire to stay in England should encourage Aston Villa to up their pursuit.
