Ex-England star in ‘final phase’ of recovery after cardiac event as PREM club issues statement Gloucester have confirmed former England hooker Jack Singleton is nearing the end stage of his rehabilitation programme, after suffering a cardiac event last season. The 30-year-old front-rower missed the entirety of the 2025/26 PREM season as a result, but remained with the Cherry and Whites as he made a return to full health. Singleton is currently not under contract with the West Country outfit for the upcoming campaign, but with him nearing the end stages of his rehab, could make his PREM comeback sooner rather than later. Gloucester issue update on Jack Singleton following cardiac event After moving from Saracens in 2020, and a brief loan spell at Top 14 side Toulon, Singleton made 75 appearances for the Cherry and Whites in all competitions. He also won the last of his seven Test caps for England while on Gloucester’s books, where he came off the bench in a defeat to Argentina in 2022. His final appearance for the club came in last year’s PREM Rugby Cup, starting in their win over Exeter Chiefs. In a statement, Gloucester said: “Nearly 12 months on from the cardiac event he suffered in training, Jack Singleton is entering the final phase of his rehabilitation. “With the backing of the club and external specialists, Jack has followed a detailed and extensive process to reach a position where he can consider a return to full training, subject to the successful completion of his rehabilitation programme. “Gloucester Rugby has supported Jack since the incident, and remains committed to ensuring his recovery is conducted thoroughly, with his long-term health and wellbeing the priority. “While Jack will not be contracted to Gloucester Rugby for the 2026/27 season, the club is proud to have supported him throughout his recovery, and wishes him every success for the future as he considers the next steps in his playing career.” Also commenting, Gloucester head coach George Skivington said: “As friends and colleagues, everyone at the club has been pleased to see Jack’s progress in his health and wellbeing following what was undoubtedly a frightening experience for him and his family.
