Leeds United Premier League • England Romano reveals Mudryk’s decision on Leeds transfer as Chelsea star is offered move to France Leeds United’s chances of signing Mykhailo Mudryk have been talked up by Fabrizio Romano after the Chelsea winger turned down an alternative move and with the Whites hoping to this week tie up an agreement with Chelsea for the Ukrainian. The 28-cap Ukraine international is looking to get his career back on track after becoming a forgotten figure at Stamford Bridge, having been handed a four-year ban running to 2028 for breaching the Premier League’s anti-doping rules. In July, though, those charges were dropped, leaving the player, who cost Chelsea a whopping £62m (€70m) from Shakhtar Donetsk, free to resume his career. After falling way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are looking to loan Mudryk out for a season, with TEAMtalk exclusively revealing earlier this month that Coventry were firmly in the mix for his signature. However, sources confirmed last week that Leeds United had now made a shock play for his services and, while an initial loan move had been rejected, talks were continuing between the two sides to try and find a compromise. The Blues, for their part, are seeking some sort of guarantee over the player’s minutes, and having made clear they were open to transferring him to sister club Strasbourg for the season. Leeds themselves want the player brought in as another option in Daniel Farke’s forward line. Now, according to Romano, Mudryk has made clear his desire to remain in the Premier League, and appears willing to snub Strasbourg in favour of the move to Elland Road. “Leeds are still there; they are pushing to sign Mudryk,” the journalist said on his YouTube channel. “Mudryk wants to stay in the Premier League; Chelsea were suggesting Strasbourg as a solution, but the player prefers to stay in the Premier League. “There will be conversations on this topic, for sure; another very interesting one.” READ NEXT: Next three transfer targets for Leeds named as Whites complete quickfire triple deal Farke addresses Leeds transfer needs Earlier this summer, Leeds missed out on the signing of Julian Brandt, who instead joined Ajax, while they have also been linked with a fresh move for Marseille’s Igor Paixao, who was a target last summer. Both links show there remains a desire for Leeds to add to their attacking options. In addition, the Whites plan to sign a new back-up goalkeeper for James Trafford, while a specialist left-back, who can cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson, is also seen as desirable. Speaking over the weekend, though, Farke insists he is happy with his options and was giving little away on further recruits. “No, we are in a good position. I want us to work sustainably. We work with limited resources and won’t set a target if it’s three and if we don’t get it, etc. I’m carefully optimistic we can do more business, though,” he said. Asked on his transfer plans, Farke stressed the need to always seek ways to improve his squad. “I don’t want more of the same and the same finish as last season. That’s why we have replaced Darlow, who was excellent. Why we replaced Struijk, also excellent. Probably most consistent. Not much space for improvement. “But to replace two top players from last season, we can’t just say we are way better. We need to give players time to settle. We want to build on last season. I would like to go to the Champions League, but it’s not realistic. “We have to make sure the last three promoted teams finish below us. Not predicting Forest and Spurs, who finish in the same area and also clubs improve. I don’t want to cancel optimism, but I have to judge it in a realistic way.” With regard to that new goalkeeper, it emerged over the weekend that Leeds are confident of signing a Bundesliga star, despite some denials from those associated with his agency, while Lucas Perri now looks set to join one of Italy’s biggest clubs.
