The Righteous vs. BDE & Rich Swann - The finish of the match saw The Righteous hit BDE with Orange Sunshine for the win. Winners: The Righteous Trey Miguel vs. Special Agent Zero - The finish of the match saw Trey Miguel reverse Special Agent Zero’s Choke Bomb attempt into a roll-up for the win. Winner: Trey Miguel TNA Lockdown Results We kick things off with TNA’s most notorious man, AJ Francis, taking on Elijah in The Final Encore. AJ Francis vs. Elijah – The Final Encore AJ Francis takes control of the match, dishing out punishment to Elijah with the unforgiving steel in our opening match at TNA Lockdown. The big man looks for a Down Payment from the top rope, but Elijah reverses it into a sunset flip powerbomb. Both men climb the turnbuckle again, but Elijah sends Francis crashing down to the mat before planting him with an elbow drop. Elijah teases another elbow drop, this time from the top of the cage, but Francis gets a hold of him. Elijah breaks free and teases hitting his Walk the Rope move, but Francis powers through before both men hit the mat — courtesy of a superplex off of the cage. Elijah has Francis down for the count, but Expressions interrupts with a splash out of nowhere. The Drifter is furious and drags Expressions back to the ring for some punishment. Elijah spikes Expressions with The Highwayman’s Farewell piledriver, only for Francis to disorient The Drifter with a moonsault from the ropes. Francis follows up with the Down Payment chokeslam to pick up the win. Winner: AJ Francis The Home Town Man hands Elijah his guitar as AJ Francis celebrates his victory. Elijah climbs to the top rope and smashes Francis over the head with the guitar, drawing a huge reaction from the Chicago crowd. Grade: B- An entertaining match to kick off TNA Lockdown. AJ Francis pulled off a freaking moonsault from the turnbuckle, which is some impressive agility for a man his size. That said, what was the point of TNA booking Elijah vs. AJ Francis as “The Final Encore” if they were going to do an interference angle? Not a fan of the run-in. Gia Miller catches up with Allie ahead of the Knockouts World Tag Team Championship match against The Elegance Brand. Allie says she will defend her tag team titles without Rosemary and promises a surprise tag team partner for TNA Lockdown. Allie & ??? vs. The Elegance Brand – TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship Former TNA Knockout Kiera Hogan makes her surprise return to join forces with Allie against The Elegance Brand. Allie hands Hogan the tag team title belt as they enter the ring for the match. Heather slips through the bars of the cage, but her escape leaves M at a one-on-two disadvantage. Kiera ultimately hits a fisherman neckbreaker on M to pick up the win for her team. Winners and officially Knockouts World Tag Team Champions: Allie & Kiera Hogan Grade: C+ I didn’t pop for Kiera Hogan’s return, but I thought Tom Hannifan calling Mr. Elegance a stripper was hilarious. The only spot I remember from the match was Heather escaping through the cage bars, with Rehwoldt putting her over for how petite she is. Moose vs. Frankie Kazarian – Escape The Cage Moose is played to the ring by the cinematic pop string quartet ATLYS for his match at TNA Lockdown. Kazarian takes a page out of his former tag team partner Christopher Daniels’ playbook, planting Moose with the Angel’s Wings. Kazarian attempts a springboard leg drop, but Moose catches him mid-air and sends him crashing into the cage as the match continues. The Face of the Franchise takes out Kazarian with a huge Spanish Fly from the top of the cage, prompting the crowd to break out into “This is Awesome” chants. The cage door is open for Moose to escape, but Kazarian pokes the big man in the eyes before following it up with a slingshot cutter. The finish of the match sees Moose spear Kazarian, causing him to crash into the cage door and land on the floor outside. Since the stipulation is to escape the cage, Kazarian is declared the winner. Winner: Frankie Kazarian Grade: B- So it’s safe to assume that Frankie Kazarian is the Face of the Franchise after beating Moose at TNA Lockdown, right? The match was solid, but I can’t say the same for the closing stretch, where Kaz was telling the referee to close the door so Moose could send him crashing through it with a spear. Xia Brookside (c) vs. Elayna Black – TNA Knockouts World Championship Chicago’s own Elayna Black makes her entrance in front of family and friends for the TNA Knockouts World Championship match at TNA Lockdown. Elayna Black is busted wide open after getting slammed head-first into the cage. The champion targets the challenger’s open wound with a belt as the match continues. Both competitors are down following a backdrop suplex by Elayna Black on Xia Brookside. Brookside blinds Black with powder before catching her with a roll-up to retain her title. Winner and still TNA Knockouts World Champion: Xia Brookside Grade: B+ I have to admit, this match was better than the build-up, or lack thereof. Black was busted open in the early goings of the match and spent the latter part being picked apart by the champion, who made sure to use the cage as the weapon it is. I may not have been a fan of the ending, but if that’s the way to set up a three-way match at Bound for Glory, which I think it is, then so be it. Jason Hotch (c) vs. Mustafa Ali – TNA International Championship Mustafa Ali makes a mafia-style entrance in front of the Chicago crowd at TNA Lockdown. An extremely pissed Jason Hotch dazes Ali with a barrage of superkicks. Ali heads to the turnbuckle, but Hotch takes him out with an avalanche German suplex before rocking his former mentor with a thunderous discus lariat. Hotch botches a piledriver from the top rope, causing Ali to land on his neck. Despite the error, Hotch connects with a sit-out powerbomb, but the challenger kicks out at two. Hotch pulls off arguably the most insane spot of the night, taking out Ali with a dive from the top of the cage through a ringside table. Mustafa Ali snatches the toy from Hotch’s daughter and proceeds to taunt the champion, who is vomiting blood on the other side following the dive from the top of the cage. Ali then enters the ring as the match continues. Ali traps Hotch against the steel cage bars and proceeds to whip him with his own belt. The champion fights back and takes out the challenger with a double stomp from the top of the cage, but Ali still kicks out. Hotch is distracted by his daughter’s toy in the ring and takes a spear from Ali, who follows up with back-to-back 450 splashes to pick up the victory. Winner and new TNA International Champion: Mustafa Ali Grade: A+ They had a banger on TNA iMPACT a few weeks ago when Hotch pulled off a massive upset against Ali. Tonight, both men took things up a notch. From the early German suplex to Hotch almost breaking Ali’s neck with a botched piledriver, this match was all sorts of craziness. However, the best spot came in the middle of the match when Hotch performed a dive onto his former mentor from the top of the cage. I said earlier that Ali made Hotch a star when they collided weeks ago, but the way he forced Hotch to push through the pain for his family was something else. Great storytelling and incredible action from bell to bell. ‘The Phenomenal Son’ Signs With TNA Gia Miller welcomes AJ Styles’ son, Avery Styles, to the stage. Avery arrives to his father’s old theme song, “Demi-Gods.” Avery says his father wouldn’t be who he is today without TNA before announcing that he is following the same path, as he has officially signed with the company. Frankie Kazarian interrupts and congratulates Avery on signing with TNA. Kaz tells Avery that AJ is like a brother to him and references his friendship with AJ, Christopher Daniels, and Samoa Joe. Kaz then warns Avery about the “snakes” in the locker room and offers to mentor the young wrestler. Kaz then leaves Avery to celebrate his TNA signing with the Chicago crowd. Cedric Alexander (c) vs. Leon Slater – Last Man Standing Match for the TNA X Division Championship Slater is the first to bleed in the match after getting slammed head-first into the cage. Alexander hoists a battered and bloody Slater for a Michinoku Driver off the ropes as the match continues. Slater drops Alexander with a huge rotation off the shoulders and sets him up for a Swanton 450, but the champion evades the move and runs into Slater, who responds with a kick. Alexander retaliates with a kick of his own. Both men climb to the top rope, where Slater hits an avalanche fisherman buster. The finish sees Slater hit three Lumbar Checks on Alexander before scoring a Swanton 450 to emerge as the Last Man Standing and regain the X Division Championship. Winner and new TNA X Division Champion: Leon Slater Grade: A- Their 2-out-of-3 Falls match was better, but the tenacity Slater displayed at the end proved he’s ready to make the next big move. Alexander gave Slater everything he had, but The Youngest In Charge came back madder, using the veteran’s own move against him three times to set up the finish. Who took out Elijah? Daria Rae is on the phone with a mystery caller. She complains about Indi Hartwell’s actions during the Countdown to TNA Lockdown pre-show before telling the person that she’ll see them on Thursday. The camera then pans to Santino checking on a fallen Elijah. Daria tells Santino to handle the situation since he’s the Director of Authority and leaves the scene as Santino expresses his frustration with the situation at hand. The System vs. Fabian Aichner, KC Navarro, Ricky Sosa, and Jada Stone – Lethal Lockdown Ricky Sosa enters Lethal Lockdown to take on all the members of The System by himself. Jada Stone is the final participant to enter the match. Stone finds herself entering enemy territory, so she climbs to the top of the cage and takes out The System with a moonsault as Lethal Lockdown officially begins. Fabian Aichner takes out Eddie Edwards with a coast-to-coast at TNA Lockdown. Stone delivers another wild spot in the match, taking out Alisha Edwards with a superplex onto the thumbtacks. Bear Bronson tries to send KC Navarro into a barbed wire board, but KC disorients Bear with a superkick, allowing Sosa to send Bronson into his own weapon of brutality with a huge running uppercut. Sosa removes a strand of barbed wire from the cage and wraps it around his shoulder, using it to take out Bronson with a running uppercut. However, Sosa’s momentum is cut short by Eddie Edwards, who spikes the international sensation with a package piledriver onto a steel chair to pick up the win for his team. Winners: The System Grade: A- Fun match, but I’m not sure it was the right call to let The System beat TNA’s future stars. Let’s see if we get another match between the two teams at Bound for Glory. Eddie Edwards banged up his knee and hopefully, it’s nothing serious, but he still managed to pick up the win for his team and preserve his undefeated streak in Lethal Lockdown. The Hardys (c) vs. The Nemeths – TNA World Tag Team Championship The finish of the match sees Nic Nemeth hit Matt Hardy with the Danger Zone to pick up the win for The Nemeths. Winners and new TNA World Tag Team Champions: The Nemeths Leon Slater interrupts the celebration. Slater walks to the ring while talking about his big win earlier at TNA Lockdown. He then tells Nic that he’s exercising Option C at Bound for Glory. Slater hands over his title to TNA President Carlos Silva. The Nemeths try to take advantage of the distraction to attack Slater, but The Youngest In Charge takes them both out and poses with the TNA World Championship to close out the show. Grade: B- You heard it here first: The Hardys are going to show up at a AAA event to set up a tag team title match with The War Raiders. With all the partnerships between TNA and WWE, I won’t be surprised if The GOATs end up winning the AAA Tag Team Championship. As for the post-match angle, I thought Slater relinquishing his X Division Championship shortly after regaining it was a bit rushed. Of course, he’s going for the bigger prize, but they could have held off on the announcement to build up the intrigue. Overall Grade: B+ Mustafa Ali vs. Jason Hotch stole the show. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hotch and Skyler end up becoming the TNA World Tag Team Champions in the near future. As for Ali, TNA needs to retain the man because he’s doing arguably the best work of his career. Both the X Division Championship and Lethal Lockdown matches were solid. Slater preserved his legacy after a bloody battle with Cedric Alexander. Lethal Lockdown featured some fun spots, including Jada Stone taking out everyone with a dive from the top rope. The TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship match was underwhelming. Kiera Hogan finds herself back at the top of the tag team division after returning to the company five years later. Xia Brookside vs. Elayna Black impressed me. Black wore a crimson mask in front of her family and friends. The controversial ending is probably the right way to set up the three-way for the Knockouts World Championship at TNA Bound for Glory. Elijah vs. AJ Francis would’ve been better if not for the interference angle. As for Frankie Kazarian vs. Moose, they probably booked Kazarian to win the match so he could claim to be the best role model for Avery Styles. Speaking of Avery, the kid will have to learn how to cut promos. Let’s see if the storyline they teased at TNA Lockdown leads to a one-off AJ Styles appearance. The main event could’ve been the opening match because the action was underwhelming. The highlight was Nic Nemeth becoming a double champion and, obviously, Leon Slater’s post-match promo, which I think should’ve been saved for a TNA weekly taping. That’s it for tonight.
