Olympic Champion and former World Record holder Bobby Finke has announced his engagement to long-time partner Ellie Zweifel, a former swimmer at the University of Florida, while in Rome, Italy. Finke and Zweifel shared a collaborative post on Instagram yesterday to share the news, with the fitting caption “When in Rome” The two have been together since 2018, when they were both student-athletes at the University of Florida. Finke recently wrapped up his season at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California, less than two weeks ago. There, he finished as runner-up in the 800 free (7:42.52) and 3rd in both the 400 IM (4:07.59) and the 1500 free (14:44.26). In a report published back in October of 2025 by People, Finke said that Zweifel has “sacrificed a lot from herself” to allow Finke to continue competing at the highest levels. “But the one thing that I know Ellie does for me is she’s one of my biggest supporters, and she’s sacrificed a lot from herself to allow me to do what I want to do,” Finke told People in the report from October. “I’m just looking forward to be able to repay that one day.” In that same report, Finke mentioned that he had not really intended to swim past the 2024 Olympics, though the thought of a home Olympics in 2028 has kept him coming back for more. “As years went on after Tokyo, I was like, ‘The home Olympics, that’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,’ seeing how the fans and the home country in France reacted to their athletes was incredible.” Finke said. “I know like in America, we always want to be the best and do better. That’s, that’s what I’m really looking forward to.”
