The Seattle Seahawks pilfered Brian Fleury from the rival San Francisco 49ers to run the 2026 offense. Fleury filling for the popular Klint Kubiak rose as a major discussion involving the Super Bowl champs during NFL Training Camp. Head coach Mike Macdonald siphoning him from 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan left many believing if the Seahawks would make wholesale changes on offense. Macdonald peeled back the curtain with the NFL Network Friday on the hire. Including detailing what stood out on Fleury's resume outside of working with a rival coach. “You can bounce defensive ideas back and forth about how we can play things. And he's right there with you because he's lived that life, plus when he talks analytics and game's situations he's lived that life too,” Macdonald said. He also adds how Fleury brings quarterback expertise too into the room. Which benefits Sam Darnold greatly as he aims to capitalize on his first championship run as a quarterback. But why not hire from within? “Well, we wanted consistency. Which was important in terms of schematics and a foundation. But I feel like the best way to go in my career is let's go with open eyes and have an honest process. Brian [became] highly recommended,” Macdonald said. So now Fleury will work with Super Bowl winners after coaching up George Kittle in the 49ers' tight end room. Fleury also helped lead the running game efforts featuring Christian McCaffrey in the Bay Area too. He adds a past defensive assistant background too in adding to Seattle's brainpower on the coaching staff.
