A former top-five pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Oregon product started off his career in promising fashion, recording 11.5 sacks during his second year in the league. However, injuries limited the pass rusher to just 22 games over the past two seasons, and he doesn’t have the proper environment for a bounce-back season. Now set to hit free agency after the season, it’s hard to envision any way for Kayvon Thibodeaux to see the field on a regular basis. Brian Burns and former third-overall pick Abdul Carter are ahead of him in the pecking order, and first-round pick Arvell Reese will fight for additional snaps. With this in mind, it’s easy to see why Kayvon Thibodeaux is a popular trade target. The New York Giants reportedly wanted a second-round pick for his services, and Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton doesn’t think the team will lower its offer any time soon. “Productive pass rushers will always be in demand, but Thibodeaux has seen a significant drop-off in sacks and pressures since his standout 2023 campaign. Furthermore, over the last two seasons, he’s missed 12 games because of injuries,” Moton writes. “…Even with the added pass-rushing talent on the roster, Thibodeaux will likely remain in New York past the roster cuts deadline. Kayvon Thibodeaux has been an obvious trade target ever since the Giants selected Arvell Reese, and if any team was going to meet New York’s asking price, it would have happened by now. Quite frankly, no team should be giving up a second-round pick for one year of Thibodeaux, as that would be a drastic overpay. The New York Giants have a new head coach in John Harbaugh and a promising young quarterback in USC’s Jaxson Dart. While this team probably won’t win the Super Bowl, they have legitimate playoff aspirations, especially if star wide receiver Malik Nabers can stay healthy. Trading Kayvon Thibodeaux doesn’t make this team better, and keeping him around for an additional season is more valuable than the late-round pick they’d probably receive for his services.
