Super League’s best front-rower steals show again as Leigh edge out York Leigh Leopards celebrate a try in 2026 Leigh made it 12 wins in 15 as they edged out York Knights on home soil, ending up 22-14 victors in a hotly-fought clash on Friday night. Live from the press box, our Leopards ratings… David Armstrong – 8 A good night’s work from Armstrong, who slotted back in at full-back after being played on the wing last week. Stood up well in defence throughout and then made his attacking intent count late on to put Leigh into an unassailable lead with a well-deserved try. Innes Senior – 6 A solid shift from Senior again, back on the wing this week. Andy Badrock – 6 Centre partner Badrock mirrored Senior, standing up well. He got on the scoresheet early on in the second half thanks to being in the right place at the right time. Umyla Hanley – 7 A trademark tenacious showing from Hanley, who laid a try on a plate for Josh Charnley with an unselfish assist early on and was his usual self to help Leigh to victory in a tight encounter. His late dart was a joy to watch, it’s a shame that didn’t end with a try. Josh Charnley – 7 Back from a twisted ankle, Charnley was in the right place at the right time for his first half try. The veteran used all of his experience to help the Leopards over the line, particularly whenever he got involved in the second half. Adam Cook – 7 A good night for Cook, who pulled off a great cover tackle early on, overshadowed by York grabbing the opening try with the next play. His restart from that earned the Leopards the ball back though, and his kicking game led to a couple of golden opportunities over the course of the 80 minutes. Three from five from the tee tonight. Lachlan Lam – 8 Lam wasn’t anywhere near his best during the second half of last weekend’s defeat to Wigan. He never shied away from anything here though, bouncing back in style with a great performance and a couple of assists added to his tally to show for it. Joe Ofahengaue – 8 Ofahengaue is an absolute machine. Leigh may need to manage his minutes at the back end of the season so they have him available for the play-offs, but they got 54 minutes out of the front-rower here and he shone again. A couple of absolutely barraging runs ultimately ended up with a try midway through the first half, and defensively, he was a rock again. Liam Horne – 7 Not quite as much impact from Horne as there has been in recent weeks, but positive on the whole. Robbie Mulhern – 6 A bit of a stop-start evening for Mulhern, who started for the first time since his recent injury but was eventually forced off 11 minutes from time with what appeared a back problem. Owen Trout – 7 A solid showing from Trout, whose endeavour almost paid off with a try early on in the second half. No one could have argued he’d have deserved that, had it counted. Jacob Alick-Wiencke – 7 Alick-Wiencke was thrown in from the off for the first time since his injury, and did a good job. Plenty of punch. Louis Brogan – 7 7.5 for Brogan, if we did halves. Particularly in the first half, he made his presence felt with a couple of great drives and was held up over the line. Played the full 80, as far as we’re aware, huge praise for that. Isaac Liu (Interchange) – 7 Liu had only featured off the bench for Leigh once prior to tonight. Perhaps a case, like Ofahengaue, of the Leopards managing his minutes. Nothing wrong with what he delivered in his stint. Matt Davis (Interchange) – 7 A couple of stints off the bench for Davis, who put himself about everywhere that was needed. Unsung hero type of stuff. Gareth O’Brien (Interchange) – N/A O’Brien only played the last few minutes. Edwin Ipape (Interchange) – 7 Ipape was back in the fold following his failed Head Injury Assessment (HIA), and went steady away during his stint. You still feel there’s more to come from him this year, and Leigh will certainly hope that’s the case.
